Every year, the University of Manitoba offers many bursaries to help students with financial needs. These bursaries are available for both new and continuing students, whether they study full-time or part-time. The bursaries usually range from $400 to $1,000, and the university gives out more than $14 million each year.

What Is A Bursary?
Bursaries are given based on financial need, unlike scholarships that are based on academic performance. When applying for a bursary, you must fill out a budget section to show your financial need. Each bursary might have different requirements, so it’s important to read the details carefully before applying.
General Bursary Application Process
To apply for bursaries at the University of Manitoba, you need to complete the General Bursary application through the Aurora Student Portal. For the Fall and Winter Terms, the application will be available in early August, and the deadline to submit it is October 1.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Undergraduate students: Must complete at least 60% of a full course load in both Fall and Winter Terms.
- Graduate students: Must be full-time students over the Fall and Winter Terms.
- Continuing students: Must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0.
- New students from high school: Must have a grade 12 average of 70% or higher.
- International students in their first year: Not eligible for the general bursary program.
- Financial need must be clearly documented in the application.
Selections for bursaries are made in early December, and the funds are applied to Winter Term fees. If you need a refund after paying your fees, you can request it through the Aurora Self-Service account.
Louis Riel Bursaries
These bursaries are for Red River Métis students with financial needs. To apply, students must complete both the Louis Riel Bursary Application (available through the Riel Institute) and the University of Manitoba General Bursary Application by October 1. Both applications will be available in early August.
Steps to Request a Refund
- Log into Aurora Self-Service.
- Click on the “Enrolment & Academic Records” tab.
